No, I wouldn't be grateful

No, I wouldn't be grateful
To be perfectly honest, no, I would not be grateful for such a present. It's rather like getting a piece of clothing that you wouldn't be seen dead in. okay, so you'd put it in a drawer rather than react the way that Stephen did, but a truck is slightly different. Whereas most people have more than one garment, he'd have to let his present rust away and buy his own (getting a job or with money from his YouTube partnership).

As for those who think all it needs is a coat of paint: look at it. No registration plates. The metal at the bottom of the door has rusted away. God knows what the underside of the vehicle is like. Are his parents trying to kill him? It would take at least few hundred dollars to restore that to a reasonable condition.

Why would they buy him anything nice? He destroys EVERYTHING! He should be grateful they haven't pushed him down a well.

RE: No, I wouldn't be grateful
I'd be thrilled to get a truck like that. As long as it drives well, of course--sure it's embarrasing at first, but that's why you get a job (which they were talking about Stephen doing), and save up for either paint or a paint job. Then you've got a great truck for however many hundred dollars the dad said he paid for it.

RE: No, I wouldn't be grateful
I wouldn't be grateful either. I think part of the reason that Stephen overreacted was the way his gift was presented. He was blindfolded and usually that means an incredible gift but what he received was very disappointing. I think everyone should have realized it would have been disappointing to him and tried to either prepare him for what was coming or at least try to improve the gift. Take it to Maaco for a $199 paint special....

I feel sorry for Stephen. It was almost like he was set up for failure.

I agree. Even though Like someone said, I would work to make it better. It only needed a new paint job really.

I agree. No sixteen year old "deserves" any kind of car. Stephen obviously has never had a job. Why does he think he deserves an expensive truck? Because his parents worked and bought one for themselves? I think not, sirs. Besides...look at the microwave incident. Instead of making himself a sandwich or cooking the turkey in the oven (like a NORMAL person would) he hauls the microwave outside and feebly attempts to smash it. Imagine if his parents had bought him a nice vehicle and somebody cut him off. Stephen should be grateful they gave him any presents. If I was his mom I'd say "We used the money we would've spent on your birthday gifts to replace our possessions".

RE: No, I wouldn't be grateful
I totally agree Gravyboat. This kid needs to understand the real value of money. If he worked, he would understand how much a USD really costs. $200.00 is still a lot, and since hes never worked he doesn't know how long you have to work just to get that. (At minimum wage).
